Ashin Chekinda was born on Tuesday, the ninth waxing day of Tabodwe in the Myanmar year 1319 (28 January 1958) of parents U Aung Thein and Daw Sein Kyi in Thawdarpan Ward, City of Sagaing, Sagaing Division, Myanmar. He obtained an Associate degree in Civil Engineering from The Government Technical Institude, Mandalay, Myanmar. Taungsoon Dhammaduta (preceptor) ordained him in 1983 in Bilin Township, Mon State, Myanmar. He passed Padhange, Padhamalat and Pathamagyi and also passed the Dhamāciriya in 1993. The Government awarded him with Sāsanadhaja dhammācariya title.
The Government also awarded him the titles of Dhammakathika bahujanahitadhara in 2003 and Mahāsadhammajotikadaja in 2005. He studied the pariyatti under the venerable sayadaws at various monasteries throught Myanmar—Dhammaduta monastery in Taungsoon, Mahagandayon monastery in Amarapura, Masoeyein monastery in Mandalay, Aayyathein Pali University in Sagaing and Thubawdayon monastery in Sagaing.
He is the governing councils of Dhammaduta, the Sasana Council of Hmawby township and the head of the Dhammaduta Zaytawun Tawya Chekinda monastery in Hmawby. He is the lecturer in the Faculty of Patipatti, International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University. He is also a warden of the dormitory for Internal Students at the University.
