Welcome to Thanti-Thitsar Vipassana Meditation Center!

Dr. Hazel McKillop was born in Yangon, Myanmar, and she was a graduate of Institute of Medicine (I) Yangon, Myanmar. After she had completed her internship work and private practice in Yangon, she was relocated in England and worked at various hospitals in London, Coventry and Liverpool. She had also worked as senior medical officer in Hong Kong for sometimes before she immigrated to United States. She had completed her full residency and fellowship training in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at New York. NY. She is currently practicing as a consultant and attending physician at various hospitals in South Bay area of Los Angeles and had opened her clinic in Lawndale, California. She is well respected by many of her professional colleagues because of her dedication and charitable activities.

In her private life, she is a devoted Buddhist who lives by the rules of Dhamma. Her contributions and the supports to the Buddhist Sangha communities in Los Angeles area are well known. She has been supporting the Mahasi Yeik-tha and various Monasteries in Myanmar up to date. Her ambition in her life is to establish a Meditation center in Los Angeles area for two objectives: first, she likes to share with others the experience of vipassana meditation which leads her to peace, tranquility and adaptability in daily life, secondly, she wants to devote her retirement days working towards for the advancement of Buddhist Sasana through meditations. All Buddha teaching can be summarized in one word and that is Sati (mindfulness). One would cultivate the mind through mindfulness in whatever you do, you touch, see, smell, hear, taste  etc.

Dr. McKillop´s believes and her commitments had come into reality and began to solidify in 2002 when she purchased a land and the building in Green Belt area of Riverside, California. She named this place ¨Thanti-Thitsar¨ which means ¨Real Truth¨, the real truth of Dhamma can be found in this place. The name of the foundation is Than-Thitsar Vipassana Meditation Center (ttvmc).

The Thanti-Thitsar Vipassana Meditation Center is situated in a very quiet and tranquil setting among the five acres of orange groves in Riverside. Sayadaw  Aggamahapandita, Aggmahasaddhammajotikadhara, D. Late. (Honoris Causa) U Silananda and other Sayadaws had visited the Center and gave Dr. McKillop a blessing to continue her efforts in promoting Dhamma. All Sayadaws ? Bhante were very pleased to see this place full of loving-kindness, peace and tranquility. Thanti-Thitsar is one of a kind Vipassana Meditation Center in Southern California.

Dr. McKillop likes to welcome all of you from different background, different genders, different nationality and different belief to join us in Vipassana / insight meditation and practicing loving kindness at the center to achieve liberation in this life.  Thanti-Thitsar is a non-profit organization as per IRS rules and regulation.
